Sandburg Virtual Writer's Workshop: Tom Painting

  • Flat Rock United States (map)

On Thursday, Nov 21, 7-9 pm,, Tom Painting, will lead a virtual writing workshop titled "How to Haiku".

In this workshop, students will learn the basics of composing and crafting haiku in English. We will explore the power of image to evoke emotion and how artful juxtaposition may result in the haiku (ah-ha) moment. As our understanding evolves, we will call upon some of the many fine haiku written in English to act as models and inspiration. A discussion of seasonal awareness and the understanding of kigo will further enhance our understanding. People, being part of nature will also provide a focal point as we search for moments- both serious and humorous- where the essence of being human is made manifest.

This workshop is open to writers of all skill levels and is a fun way to find inspiration from a new prompt or revise current work. It is hosted by the Friends of Carl Sandburg at Connemara and will use Microsoft Teams for the virtual connection. Sign up to attend the workshop below
